Luca Rastrelli

Luca Rastrelli

was born in Naples, Italy, in 1966. He received the Pharmacy degree (summa cum laude) and the Ph.D. degree in Chemistry of Natural Products from the University of Naples "Federico II", Naples, in 1990 and 1994, respectively. In 1998, he was a Research Fellow at the University of Salerno. From 2002 to 2005, L. Rastrelli was Member of Board of Directors of University of Salerno. He received the Honorary Professor title at the University of SUR, Lima Perù and at University of Havana Cuba, in 2004 and 2009, respectively. Presently, he is Full Professor of Food Chemistry at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Salerno, Italy. He is mainly interested in chemical, and biological characterization of food and medicinal plant species: the investigation involves the isolation and chemical characterization of secondary metabolites, and development of integrated analytical techniques for determination of qualitative and quantitative profile of food and plants dried extracts. A recent research line concerns the Development of analytical methodology for determination of emerging contaminants in environment and foods. He is author or co-author of about 150 publications in International Journals and chapter in books. Since 2008 he is the General Secretary of SILAE, the Italo-LatinAmerican Asian and African Society of Ethnomedicine at www.silae.it
